Family brings dead relative’s body into Capitec Bank over insurance dispute.

Earlier today, a family caused a major scene at the Capitec Bank branch in Stanger when they brought their deceased relative’s body inside the bank in a bid to resolve what they said was a dispute over a funeral insurance claim.

The family arrived at the bank with the corpse of their deceased family member and left it inside the branch while trying to push for the payout of a funeral policy.

Security had to cordon off the branch, and the bank was temporarily closed to remove the body and handle the situation.

People gathered outside as the unusual scene unfolded, with reports saying the family was frustrated by delays or requests for additional documentation required by the bank before releasing funds.

Capitec Bank issued a statement expressing condolences for the bereaved family and acknowledged the sensitivities of the situation. The bank said it was in contact with authorities and providing support to those affected, and that appropriate care and dignity would be maintained while the matter is handled.

This is not the first time such a protest has occurred in the area. Similar incidents involving families bringing bodies or coffins into bank branches in KwaDukuza over funeral payout disputes have been reported in the past.
