A part‑time lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) was killed in a violent mob‑style attack near the South Campus in Soshanguve, Pretoria, on the night of Tuesday, 24 February 2026.
According to local officials, the victim reported to be a lecturer at TUT and was forcibly removed from his home in a residential area close to the campus and assaulted by a group of people in the street.
Community members have claimed that the attack was linked to accusations that the lecturer was involved in the rape of two children. These serious allegations have been widely circulated in local reporting, but authorities have not yet confirmed them officially.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that a murder investigation has been opened, describing the incident as a case of vigilantism. No arrests have been reported at this stage as detectives continue gathering evidence.
