The difference between health and wellness

Health and wellness are related, but they are not the same thing. Here’s the difference:

1. Health is the state of your physical, mental, and social well-being — not just the absence of disease.

  • Focus: How your body and mind are functioning right now.
  • Example: Having normal blood pressure, a strong immune system, or good mental health means you are in good health.

2. Wellness is the active process of        making choices that lead to a         healthy and fulfilling life.

  • Focus: Lifestyle and habits that help you maintain or improve health over time.
  • Example: Eating balanced meals, exercising, managing stress, and getting enough sleep are part of practicing wellness.

Key Difference

  • Health is the state you are in.
  • Wellness is the journey or actions you take to support or improve that state.

For instance, you can be in good health now, but practicing wellness ensures you stay that way long-term.
